How do I setup password protected directories?
There is a program called Webprotect in all of the control panels. This program will allow you to select directories which you wish to protect by a password and set user names that will be able to connect to a particular directory from the web. This is good if you have a members area, or an upload area so friends and colleagues can upload to your site. Just login to your control panel as you normally would. Then select the 'Access Menu'. Click on Web Protect. You will be prompted to click on a folder that you wish to protect and it will list the contents of your main directory. Select a directory. Now click in the check box next to the 'Lock' icon. Then enter a name to be displayed when the password protected box pops up. This can be 'Members Area', 'Just for Friends' or anything else you may want. Then click save. Now you need to setup the users who can access this directory. At the bottom of the screen, it will ask for a username and password. Enter a username and password that you will give to your friend or member. Then click 'Add New User', the name will then appear in the text box to the left. Now you are done. You can add as many web users as you like. support@mercuryd.com |
